WitW - Session 10

The party was surrounded by spiders coming out of the tunnel. Thanks to Jeatz's illuminated rock, they were able to take out the spiders quickly. Outside the room they found a long hallway and started opening doors. Almyre opened a door quietly enough to see more guards manning ballistae in the next room. Horace surprised one by pulling it into the room and Almyre instructed Ka to put the immoveable rod in front of the door so the guards could not open to rescue their fellow soldier. The Yuan-ti was reluctant to talk, but Ka took an eyeball to encourage him to talk about the "Great Skingle"

 

They didn't learn much other than Skingle may still forgive the party despite their murdering. They headed right there to get it over with as Skingle didn't seem like much of a threat. Ka attempted to dupe the Great Skingle by acting as if they were a Yuan-ti but with their tail cut off. Skingle knew of this trick the whole time, of course. The party filed in, sitting at the table. The fortune telling began.

 

Skingle read a short enchantment and the party was taken by a deep darkness. The presence in the darkness seemed to know each of the party members more intimately than they may have guess. Leander sends his regards, KA and Jeatz's fate may be more intertwined than they thought, and Almyre's father is not the only master of Chronurgy. Redizere, as the presence introduced itself as, advised the party stop the path they are on or lead themselves to ruin. His parting words being - "The Wizard will unmake the world and put it back together as it was meant to be"

 

The party wakes up to see Skingle gone. They spent some time sleuthing around his room. Horace found a gross chess board, but decided to play the skull sitting across from it. From this skull he learned his Luckstone given to him by Bhall would impose disadvantage on the next two rolls when he uses his advantaged roll. Almyre found a staff that was ultimately the key to the sacrifice room. Ka found a comprehend languages spell scroll. The party found a pinhole in the painting which give a small view into the hidden sacrifice room where Fontaine was being held and likely killed very soon.

 

The party books it to the apothecary finding the hole in the floor that acts as the key to the secret room. The sneak into the room and Horace was able to get the jump on a guard and battle commenced.

 

The party approached, and Skingle threatened to kill the "chicken" for not laying an egg. He successfully suggests Fontaine to stay in the cage for the remainder of the battle. Almyre tested her new fireball, dealing a hefty blow to Skingle and Sturge. Skingle however, blew back by stunning Ka with his nightmare abilities, but snapped out of it quickly and finished Sturge with a blade through the brain. Skingle, desperate makes a run for Fontaine to deal a killing blow to her, but Horace crit on the opportunity attack, finishing him.

 

Fontaine turned out to be a lot sassier than they expected, taking after her father. She asked the party to escort her carefully through the dungeon. Almyre came back to the enchanting table, rolling a nat 20 on the Arcana check, learning the Enlarge/Reduce spell. The immoveable rod was still in the door. They removed it and took out the last two of the cult members. Fontaine was reluctant to hide in the secret passage and it was for naught anyway as they were able to summon the bridge to cross the endless pit. They left the dungeon in the late afternoon.
