WitW - Session 42
The party paused to listen as Jordigan Duskweaver, leader of the Eclipse, revealed more of his organization's beliefs. According to him, King Melchior’s reign was nothing more than a decades-long illusion—an ongoing Modify Memory spell woven into the fabric of the empire. Their newly freed druid companion, Scraps, harbored a deep hatred for the Church as well. With two new allies in tow, the party continued their infiltration of Lightwatch Tower.
They came across a sleeping Solarian and, in a display of brutal efficiency, dispatched him. Looting his keys, they gained access to the locked cage, retrieving a trove of items—including Jeatz’s belongings. Among them was his Whispering Sword, which Ty later used to track Jeatz’s location. They also recovered several Potions of Invisibility.
In a grim act, the party attempted to roll severed body parts down the spiral staircase, aiming to startle Lorne below. Though they missed, Lorne was sufficiently terrified. The act left Horace shaken—his Amulet of Bhaal reveling in the display of cruelty, stirring something dark within him.
Pressing on, they uncovered more treasures: a Pearl of Rejuvenation, several Potions of Wisdom, and spare sets of Solarian Plate Armor. As they explored further, they encountered a pair of invisible pledges. One of them, a young zealot, suddenly attacked Meera, accusing her of heresy for attempting to avoid The Trial. The party swiftly dispatched him and successfully convinced Meera to join their cause.
Determined to reach the top of the tower and rescue Jeatz, they devised a plan. Ty and Meera would pose as captured pledges, with Scraps transformed into a spider, hidden in Ty’s hair. The rest of the party disguised themselves in the Solarian armor.
As they ascended, Jordigan gave them one final piece of advice: If I don’t make it out, find our allies in Marshven on the east coast.
Reaching the upper levels, they found The Trial had begun. Odegaard stood before a gathering of devout followers, proclaiming that only the truly faithful would be chosen. Meera explained the horrifying truth—pledges were expected to hurl themselves from the Deathspan, and only the most devout would be resurrected by the clerics below.
With the first floor occupied by the ceremony, the party moved further upstairs, slipping past the library and through the dormitories. Arriving at the chapel, they encountered a lone Solarian carrying a message for Odegaard. They managed to persuade him to leave, granting them a brief moment to regroup.
Almyre, sensing Meera’s wavering loyalty, decided to remove her from the upcoming battle—sending her to the storage area upstairs. The party took the opportunity to don their own armor, shedding their disguises.
Steeling themselves, they pushed open the final door. Inside, High Priest Odegaard knelt beside Jeatz.
Horace didn’t hesitate.
"You rat!" he bellowed.
